Reasons for the Interface Warning
Apex will display an interface warning at the bottom of the screen if an interface is offline.
Apex and PlusPoint use interface controllers which are necessary for the integration to 3rd party software. When these controllers are closed or go into idle mode it prevents the interfaces from functioning as they should.
The interface might be down due to the following reasons:
The workstation they are running from is switched off
If they are manually closed, not opened again
The network is down
The network goes into idle mode
The machine they are running from is not connected to the network
They were not added to the anti-virus exception lists
They were not added to the firewalls
The machine they are running from was restarted and they were not opened again
Some interfaces require an internet connection and the internet might be down
If there has been no movement on an interface according to the delay timer then this will also display a warning message.
There could be more technical reasons for an interface not running. If you see the error "Could Not Start Server Interface Not running" on the interface itself and already tried all of the above, please log a ticket on the HTI Help Centre to assist you in resolving it as the issue could also be related to the configuration and mapping of the interface.
Recommended steps that might prevent the interface warnings:
Certain users will receive a notification that the interface is down. Ensure that these are actioned immediately.
HTI recommends that the interfaces are added to the Task Scheduler with specific stop/start times during the day to ensure that they are restarted and refreshed throughout the day. Contact your IT to set this up.
In addition, we recommend that the following command is implemented to prevent the network from going idle (Contact your IT to set this up):
Start / Run / cmd
net config server / autodisconnect:-1
Lastly, HTI recommends that the interface controllers are added to the Start Menu. Contact your IT to set this up.
Follow the below steps on how to restart an interface:
Restarting the interface will almost always resolve the issue.
Click on the interface in question
Navigate to File>Close
It will prompt you for a password, which will always be "CLOSE"
Once the application was closed, just double-click to open it again
There are two places whereby the interface warning should be activated:
1. Interface Configuration
Administration > General Administration > Interface Configuration
Highlight the interface which should display the warnings
Click on "Change"
Tick "Display Warnings"
Click on Save"
2. Workstations
Each PC with access to Apex must have a workstation configured for it.
When first opening Apex and the below warning appears, it means that the workstation will not receive the Interface warnings
If the PC name is changed, please make sure to update this under the Apex Workstation Configuration
Once you confirmed that the workstation is configured, ensure that the following setting is activated:
Administration > General Administration > Workstations
Select the workstation that should have the warnings, click on Change
Tick Display Interface Warnings
Save
Close the Apex application completely and open it again for the changes to take effect.
